HALIMA SHEKARAU Empower Physically-challenged

About N62 million was realised at the recent launch of a foundation for the physically challenged and the less privileged in Kano.
The launch of the Garkuwar Nakasasu Foundation for the Disabled, a pet project of the wife of the Kano State Governor, Hajiya Halima Shekarau, took place at the Sani Abacha Stadium Kano.
In his remarks at the occasion, the chief host and husband of the initiator of the Foundation, Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, enjoined Nigerians to do more in assisting the physically challenged and the less privileged in society.
He explained that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility of assisting the needy in the society, hence the need for individual sacrifice.

The Governor, who said the cardinal objective of his administration was centred on human development, stressed that it has impacted positively on the citizenry, particularly on the physically challenged. He said that the foundation would give the less privileged a sense of belonging, and urged public spirited individuals or groups to support the project.
The initiator of the foundation, Hajiya Halima Shekarau, said the aim is not only to financially assist the less privileged in the society, but to also empower them through education and other human development initiatives.
She expressed concern over the condition of neglect the physically challenged and the less privileged have been exposed to in the state, saying that the foundation will create an avenue for facilitating seminars and workshops to sensitise the citizens. She expressed confidence that the foundation would serve as a veritable platform for the physically challenged to exercise their God-given talents, and accomplish their missions in life.
